Bilateral scientific seminar on the project
BILATERAL CHINESE - BULGARIAN RESEARCH SEMINAR “CEAFLOOD”
17-18 October 2018, Varna, Bulgaria
Researchers from the joint Chinese - Bulgarian team of the project CEAFLOOD - COMPOSITE MODELLING OF URBAN FLOODING IN COASTAL & ESTUARINE AREAS took part in the bilateral research seminar held in Varna on 17 and 18 October 2018 in the conference hall at Bulgarian Ship Hydrodynamics Centre (BSHC), Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS). The seminar was the closing meeting of the CEAFLOOD project partners. Тhe results of the cooperation of both parties on this project were presented at the meeting, and current developments in numerical and physical modeling and measurement technologies related to flood risk management in coastal urban areas and adaptation to climate change were discussed.
Chinese side was represented by researchers from Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute (NHRI) - Prof. J.N. Pan, Prof. J.S. Zhang, and Ms. M.J. Xiong. The Bulgarian side included representatives of the BSHC / BAS - Prof. R. Kishev, Head of the Center, and Assoc. Prof. D. Dragancheva, team leader, as well as representatives of the Black Sea - Danube Association for Research and Development (BDCA) - project partner. The participants from the three partner organizations presented the results of the joint cooperation, and demonstrated a number of contemporary research developments on the subject of the project.
BDCA Representatives took active part in this scientific forum, together with their colleagues from NHRI and BSHC / BAS. Dr. Valeri Penchev delivered a presentation on the topic of “High-Resolution DEM for Numerical Simulations of Coastal Flooding - Case study Asparuhovo-Karantina”. Ms. Shirin Shukrieva spoke about “Modeling of Wave Induced Hydrodynamics in Coastal Areas using Software System MIKE21/3”.
The seminar round table was focused on discussions of the research developments presented by the CEAFLOOD joint team. Both parties confirmed their satisfaction of the results achieved during the two-year of cooperation.
