4-th International Symposium on Flash Floods in Wadi Systems - ISFF’2018 in Casablanca, Morocco
The 4-th International Symposium on Flash Floods in Wadi Systems - ISFF’2018 (линк към http://www.isff2018.com/) was held in Casablanca, Morocco from 4 to 6 December 2018. The symposium was attended by the project coordinator, Dr. Dorina Dragancheva.
She presented the report „COMPOSITE MODELLING APPROACH TO STUDY COMPOUND FLOODING IN COASTAL AREAS“, with the results obtained by the two project teams in composite modeling of floods in coastal urbanized areas (Karantina Beach, Varna, and Beilun coastal area, China). Interesting details of the report include the numerical and physical modeling of flood dyke in the area of Beilun City, Zhejiang Province, China, to protect the coast and urbanized area by sea storms and combined floods from tidal rising water levels, and extreme sea waves. The numerical model was implemented in the SWASH software environment, and the numerical results obtained were compared with the results of physical modeling in the large wave flume at the State key Laboratory of hydrology, water resources and hydraulic engineering in Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute (NHRI). For the physical modeling of dyke overtopping, an original laboratory simulation method and coupling procedure were developed and applied in the NHRI (synchronous modeling of water level changes and extreme waves). The Bulgarian participation in the ISFF'2018 was extremely useful both for promoting the results of the bilateral Bulgarian-Chinese project as well as for exchanging useful professional information in the field of modern research and engineering solutions for adaptation to natural floods and reducing risk and damage, caused by them.
